Year 5 Basketball

Posted by beehivecedar on 20/06/2017

10 basketball players from Year 5 travelled to St John Payne tonight for the annual basketball competition. After a nervous start, confidence and performance levels increased throughout, notably the heroic rescue of a 5-5 draw from a 2-5 deficit and then a 3-1 victory over Mildmay. When the final results were collated, we finished in 7th position.

District Sports

Posted by beehivecedar on 20/06/2017

On Monday, six Year 6 athletes braved the heat at Melbourne Stadium to take part in the field events part of this year’s District Sports competition.

Friday saw the second day of competition in this year’s District Sports, with the track events taking place. The standard of this event is always the highest of all the competitions across Chelmsford, so it’s a great achievement to be selected for the team. Extra congratulations to Jake for his 3rd place in the long distance, and then to Meryem and Annabel, both of whom won their sprint races.

Overall, Beehive Lane finished 6th in their group.

Gold Kitemark (not year-specific)AthleticsWe may only just be into a new year and a new term, but competitive PE is already up and running (no pun intended!) On Friday, our Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics team travelled to Melbourne Stadium for an event involving a variety of sprinting, throwing and jumping events – some individual, some paired, some as relays. With restrictions on the number of events each child is allowed to participate in, every member of the team played an equal part in our final result of 4th place.

Tag Rugby match

Posted by beehivecedar on 24/11/2016

Gold Kitemark (not year-specific) tag-rugbyThis evening, our KS2 tag rugby travelled to Moulsham Juniors for the last fixture before Christmas. After a stiff walk there to get warmed up, we were quickly into our stride, with some excellent handling, running lines and support for the player in possession. In defence, our tackling was relentless, with a number of potent Moulsham attacks thwarted before they crossed our try line. Ultimately, we emerged victorious by a margin of 15-13. Well done to the team: Matthew H, Bartek B, Shay W, Finn R, Harry D, Matthew D, Tommy R, Dylan C, Charlie S, Piotr B and Dawid S.

Year 5-6 Cross Country

Posted by beehivecedar on 17/11/2016

Gold Kitemark (not year-specific) Cross CountryThis afternoon, our cross country runners from Years 5 & 6 (and their parents!) braved strong winds and a torrential downpour of rain and hail to compete in the latest event, at Melbourne Park. Following a bright morning around town, we were not helped when the skies opened just a few minutes before the scheduled start time. Fortunately, we were soon able to take shelter in the athletics centre, with children coming out only for their races. Luckily by then, the rain had stopped but many of the children were wet and cold through so were grateful to return to the dryness and warmth inside after their race. Poor Mr Gardiner though spent all afternoon outside in the cold and damp overseeing each race and collating each runner’s finishing position, but all with a smile on his face!

Despite the difficult conditions, 7 of our runners (William, Curtis, Charlie, Faith, Emma, Reece and Jake, who come 11th – our highest individual finish of the day) still managed to achieve personal best scores. Fantastic! Given that some children from other schools left because of the rain, all our runners deserve a lot of credit for sticking it out and getting round the course.

A big thank you to all parents who brought children and stayed through the rain to support, especially Mrs Howard and Mrs Cutts who helped to shepherd in and out of the athletics centre in time for their races. I hope you have dried out by now!
