Indoor Athletics

Posted by Year 4 teacher on 08/01/2018

On Friday, a team of Year 5 and 6 children travelled to Melbourne Athletics Stadium for an indoor athletics competition, made up of various running, jumping and throwing disciplines. With each athlete limited to two track and two field events, a large number of children were required to take part, giving lots of our young people chance to shine in some of their strongest disciplines.

When the final scores were counted, we finished 5th in a very competitive group of schools, but with a score which will certainly be higher than many other schools taking part in the other heats later this week.

Tag Rugby

Posted by Year 4 teacher on 23/11/2017

On Thursday evening, our whole tag rugby club walked down to Moulsham Junior for what is quickly becoming our final sports fixture of the calendar year. This year, we took 2 teams, each playing against Moulsham’s 2 teams in four very closely fought games. Our Year 5-6 team recorded 1 win (14-10) and 1 narrow defeat (9-10), while our Year 4 team managed a draw (7-7) and a win (12-10) despite playing against Year 5 and 6 opposition. Well done to all those children who took part.

Boccia and Kurling

Posted by Year 4 teacher on 23/11/2017

On Monday, Mrs Coote and some of her gym trail crew travelled to Melbourne Athletics Centre for boccia and kurling competitions. These are inclusive sports for children of all ages and abilities and are a great way for children to be involved in sport if some of the more traditional school sports are not quite their cup of tea. 2 teams of 3 boccia players and 1 team of 4 kurlers represented Beehive Lane with great enthusiasm and no little skill. One of our boccia teams managed to finish 3rd, meaning those children were awarded with medals. Fantastic!

Year 3-4 Cross Country

Posted by Year 4 teacher on 16/11/2017

This afternoon saw the last of our cross country events before Christmas as the Year 3 and 4 runners took to Melbourne Park. We fielded some debutant runners, who all acquitted themselves very well. Others also recorded best-ever finishes and 3 of the 4 teams recorded best-ever team scores. In fact, this was the first time all four of our teams at one event have all scored under 200 (low score wins in cross country).

Performance of the day goes to the Year 4 girls who won their competition with by far our lowest score ever – 33.
3 of the team finished in the top 10, another in the top 15, and another in the top 25. Well done to Mana, Olivia, Grace, Bella, Frankie and Julia. What an outstanding achievement!

Of the runners in the other teams, we had another 6 children finish in the top 30 of their race, making a total of 11 of our 18 runners today. Wow!

Many thanks to parents for transporting to and from the event – your support is much appreciated.

Year 5-6 Cross Country

Posted by Year 4 teacher on 09/11/2017

This afternoon saw our Year 5 and 6 runners make the short walk to Chelmer Park for the latest round of the Cross Country league. Everyone made it round safely, with some children achieving best ever finishes and some others competing for the first time in a while (or ever!). Special mention goes to Daisy J for a 5th place finish – wow!

Year 5-6 netball matches

Posted by Year 4 teacher on 09/11/2017

On Tuesday evening, our netball club enthusiasts travelled to St Michael’s, Galleywood for a couple of netball matches. We fought hard to mark, intercept, control the ball and shoot and were very closely matched for the first 3/4 of the games, but unfortunately, in the end, we were beaten by older teams of children with more experience of playing netball. Credit to everyone for the way they played though and keeping going until the end.

Year 1 Teddy Lympics

Posted by Year 4 teacher on 09/11/2017

8 intrepid young sports stars (and Mrs Powell and Mrs Brennan) went off to Teddy Lympics today, for a fun-packed afternoon of multiskills/indoor athletics events, as well as teddy bear mask decorating! All of the children enjoyed themselves immensely and were keen to do it all again! Well done Year 1!

Tag Rugby match

Posted by Year 4 teacher on 31/10/2017

Tonight, our tag rugby team for 2017-18 played their first match, against St Michael’s from Galleywood. For a number of our team, this was their first ever rugby match, but they showed excellent handling skills and good team play to support the player with the ball. Considering we were playing against an older team with more rugby experience, the team did themselves proud, losing narrowly, 14-17. Well done to Matthew, Tommy, Dylan, Charlie, Piotr, Finley, Teddy, Oscar and David.

Beehive Cross Country

Posted by Year 4 teacher on 21/10/2017

Yesterday saw our annual Beehive Cross Country event, with all classes running the course around the school grounds. Not only is this a Beehive competition, but it also helps in picking cross country teams for external competitions. When all the scores were counted, and remembering that low score wins in cross country, the results were as follows:

1st – Woodpeckers: 93

2nd – Robins: 98

3rd – Kingfishers: 106

4th – Goldfinches: 109

Year 6 Football

Posted by Year 4 teacher on 19/10/2017

This evening, our Year 6 boys’ football team played host to a team from St Michael’s Junior School from Galleywood. Following a fairly even first half, we were a little unfortunate to trail 0-1. However, the second half saw a determined fightback and some excellent team play, with Curtis scoring a hat-trick to lead us to a 3-1 victory. There were other chances to win by a wider margin, but Mr Saunders will be pleased that at least one of the teams he supports has registered a victory this season! Thanks to Mr Coldwell for helping out in recent lessons, which no doubt contributed to tonight’s success.
